But that which is supposed to help us doesn’t always perform according to expectations. At times, it does correct our mistakes, but, as one Redditor recently shared, it may also cause them. When the guy met the girl of his dreams and things seemed to be going well, he couldn’t be happier. But one fateful morning, an auto-correction of a single word sent it all out the window. The girl felt very offended and refused to listen to any excuses, closing all the doors on their relationship and leaving the guy devastated
The beginning of the story is nothing unheard of. The OP met a girl whom he immediately fell in love with. He found her smart, funny, successful, and very beautiful. A few dates in, things were going super great, so the girl decided to share her insecurity about her weight, which she had been teased about since she was 13 years old. While the story might not have been fun, being entrusted with it made the poster feel even better than before. The next morning, the guy woke up pumped about where his life was going. He took his phone and sent what he thought was a “Good morning, darling” message to the girl he was dating. But when he picked the phone back up and saw an angry message, he re-read his own text and realized that the autocorrect “fixed” it to “fatling” instead of “darling.” No attempts to mend the situation seemed to improve it. The girl flat-out refused to hear anything the guy tried to justify his message with, so his chances were lost. The commenters had mixed reactions to this post. Some told the OP that he should always double-check what he sends or argued that the girl should’ve understood the situation and given him a second chance. Others were really taken by the irony of the whole situation and couldn’t stop making puns out of it—a game that the OP himself joined. Usually, it’s not that big of a deal, as when we notice it, we can just correct our mistake and laugh it off. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Still, in this modern day and age, where everybody occasionally runs into situations like these, surely people wouldn’t take a once-off thing like that too seriously, would they? Would it be too much to expect that perhaps there is still hope left for the OP? Well, as u/thedudeLA told us when Bored Panda reached out to him for some additional questions, his story hasn’t had any more developments since it was posted on Reddit. While we do keep our fingers crossed for the poster, it seems that this might’ve been a rare case where something like this truly was enough to mess things up completely. Still, with all that has happened, the OP was glad that people found his story to be so entertaining and enjoyable. “I was driving to work and reflecting on the situation, and as much as I [messed] up, this story was so absurd, it made me laugh,” shared the author, thinking back on how he came to post it online. “I always thought the funny TIFU stories were the best, so I shared mine.” The OP realized that he could not take this back, but he could use it as a life lesson that might ensure no similar misfortune befalls him ever again. “Always double-check text messages before sending,” said the poster, echoing the advice given by one of the commenters that must’ve been engrained deep in his mind by now. To sum up, technology can make our lives much easier. However, no one ever said that it doesn’t make mistakes, either. Looking at this story, perhaps the wisest thing that we could learn is that using these technological creations can give us a great advantage, but we should never rely on them 100%. Ultimately, just like with almost everything else, balance is the key. What did you think of this story? Have you ever had anything similar happen to you? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
While some of the commenters were consoling the poster, others couldn’t help themselves from making puns out of the situation
