For instance, let’s take mental health issues. Talking about them can be hard, but painting it through a comical meme light can make it easier. Or at least more relatable. Our interviewee agrees with this sentiment: “I think sometimes memes can be a perfect way to communicate some feelings. Especially if it’s done with a meme template that’s understood by many so it doesn’t create any confusion.” The memes in this account aren’t that upsetting either. Yes, they’re related to mental health or life struggles, but they’re pretty funny. Well, as we made it clear before, relatability in memes is important, and that’s what makes these fun.
Our interviewee said that she loves sending memes to her friends and family members: “I think sharing memes is a very fun way to stay in touch. Sometimes you don’t need to say anything, just send a silly picture, which signals to the person you’re thinking about them. Also, making someone’s day brighter even for a second is a nice feeling.”
